Every child admitted to the school has been granted their place on the clear understanding that their parents or carers accept and apply all of our policies.
This leaflet explains our rules and guidelines on pupil's appearance and uniform. Bowland High considers that how pupils dress and present themselves is important; part of our role is to prepare our pupils for the world of work where appearance really matters!
We are conscious of the financial pressures on families and our uniform requirements are intended to be sensitive to these. We appreciate the support that parents offer to ensure that our policy guidelines are adhered to.
Our uniform is compulsory and must be worn correctly by all pupils at all times whether in or out of school. Pupils are ambassadors of Bowland High and are expected to dress and behave in a way that reflects the standards that we achieve academically.
Bowland High has introduced a new uniform policy which is being implemented in the academic year 2015 / 2016. ALL Year 7 pupils who start Bowland High in September 2015 MUST purchase the new uniform (detailed in the policy). Current pupils who will be in year groups 8 - 11 in September 2015 can continue to wear their old style uniform, however, when/if they need to replace any item of uniform the new uniform policy guidelines must be followed. Our 3 uniform suppliers will only stock new style uniform.
Uniforms must be smart and clean at all times and be clearly identified with the pupils' name. Ties, when worn, must be full length with a manageable knot tied at the neck. Year 7 and Year 8 should wear clip-on ties and Year 9-11 should wear standard ties.
Pupils may wear one pair of plain/silver stud or sleepers (not hoops) in the ear lobes only. No other 'body piercing' is allowed. The only item of jewellery that can be worn is a wristwatch.
We expect hairstyles to be suitable for the school environment.
- Dyed hair can only be black, brown or blonde. No other dyed colour is acceptable.
- Shaved styles – Tramlines and shaved head designs are not acceptable. (Shaved head designs may be described as ungraded/close cut panels of hair).
- The use of hair braids is not allowed for safety reasons; hair accessories should be simple.
No make-up or nail varnish of any kind is acceptable. Nails should be kept short and false nails (i.e. acrylic or gel) are banned for safety reasons.
If pupils are unable to wear the uniform at any time parents/carers must notify school in writing.
On non-uniform days pupils must still dress in a manner that the school considers appropriate. Makeup, exposed midriffs, cropped or low cut tops, short skirts and items with a potentially offensive wording and logos are not permitted.
