Bowland has built a very strong reputation and tradition of excellence in Performing Arts.
This has been reinforced and strengthened further by the school’s successful bid to become specialist in this area. From September 2005 the school became ‘Bowland High - The School with Specialist Status in Performing Arts’. In line with its new status specialist staffing has been developed to include a Performing Arts technician and a dedicated drama teacher. Also the school facilities have been further developed with the addition of a stunning new dance studio, fully resourced with specialist lighting, sound and information technology.
The school boasts a popular and dedicated dance group who showcase work at a number of community events and perform at a number of shows throughout the year. Over the past few years this has involved pupils dancing at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, The Guildhall in Preston, The Dancehouse in Manchester and the Symphony Hall in Birmingham.
In addition the school hosts an annual school production, a Dance Dynamix show, a fashion show and a Stars in Your Eyes event each year.
The choir can often be seen in the local community entertaining residents at a variety of events from performances at local supermarkets to showcasing at the Clitheroe Folk Festival and the Hodder Valley Show. The school choir can also be heard at school functions such as the Christmas carol service, open evenings and presentation evenings.
The drama group, working in collaboration with a creative writing club, have grown in strength and numbers over the past year. They have performed pieces in the school production and are set to perform both a short murder mystery and a Christmas pantomime in 2006.
